The Apple Watch is set to get a number of software improvements with watchOS 6, which is set to arrive very soon, but it seems like there’s some more on the way. A new report from 9to5Mac, citing sources inside Apple, claims the company is working on a sleep tracking feature for its smartwatch.
The feature is known internally by the codename Burrito, but will actually be called Time in Bed tracking, which is an accurate name, at least. It will give users the option to wear the Apple Watch in their sleep, and if they do, data such as heart rate, motion, and noise, will be used to monitor the sleep quality. That data will be available in both the Health app and a new Sleep app for the Apple Watch.
Because many users charge their watches at night, Apple is also said to be including reminders to charge the Apple Watch before bedtime so that they can use the sleep tracking capabilities.
According to the report, Time in Bed tracking shouldn’t require any new hardware, so there’s no reason why it wouldn’t be available for all supported versions of the Apple Watch. Whether or not that turns out to be the case is a question that will likely be answered by the Cupertino company at its event next week.
