Nvidia releases Studio Driver 431.70 with support for new RTX Studio laptops

Nvidia is keeping up its work on graphics drivers aimed at creative professionals, which it calls Studio Drivers. Today, aligning with other announcements at the annual SIGGRAPH event, the company has released Studio Driver version 431.70 with performance improvements and support for new hardware.

For starters, the new driver improves performance for some creative software, including Magix VEGAS Pro v17, Autodesk Arnold, Allegorithmic Substance Painter 2019.2, Blender 2.80, Cinema 4D R21, and Otoy Octane Render 2019.2. Software makers have also announced RTX support for new applications at SIGGRAPH, yielding significant performance improvements. These are:

  • Adobe Substance Painter
  • Autodesk Flame
  • Blender Cycles
  • Dimension 5 D5 Fusion
  • Daz 3D Daz Studio
  • Foundry MODO
  • Luxion KeyShot

The new driver also adds support for the RTX Super cards, which were already supported in the Game Ready driver released last week. Additionally, at SIGGRAPH, 10 new RTX Studio laptops were announced, and the new driver also adds support for them.

Another major addition in this version of the driver is support for 30-bit color across all of Nvidia’s lines of cards, including GeForce and Titan. 30-bit color means pixels can have one of over one billion shades of color, which can help make color transitions smoother in many situations. Software that takes advantage of this capability includes Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

Of course, the latest driver also includes a few bug fixes:

  • [Blender]: Compute preemption is reported as not available when using the application executable name blender.exe. [2628041]
  • Mouse cursor may render incorrectly after exiting a game. [2645203]
  • [SLI][GeForce GTX 1080][Notebook]: The display flickers when using SLI. [2622166]
  • [NVIDIA Control Panel]: When the 3D Settings page->Vertical Sync setting is set to Adaptive Sync (half refresh rate), V-Sync works only at the native refresh rate after rebooting the system. [2543187]
  • [Grand Theft Auto V]: Brief flickering/corruption occurs in the game when MSAA is used. [2583604]
  • [Forza Horizon 4]: The game may crash when driving through tunnels. [200515120/ 200523430]

The driver still has one known issue, though it’s related to gaming, so it shouldn’t be a huge deal for creators:

  • [Tom Clancy’s The Division II]: The game may crash when played in DirectX 12 mode. [2587043/200406322]
